PASSION... WILL IT EVER SURVIVE - DISCUSS
I have a lot of respect for JFK, Garbo and Genix, I had a lot of respect for Mark and Eric but I do not honestly beleive that under the current regime (owners) and due to the credit crunch Passion will always now be known as a has been.

Once a month
Sub Standard Line Ups
to be frank the list is endless

the promotion powers and techniques employed by JFK are second to none and are respected through clubland, that said is he essentially flogging a dead horse.

Mark and Eric made a wise move by selling and left richer men, the pikeys that took over, to be frank saw a cash cow and got a white elephant.

If this was a PLC I would be shouting to sack the board as it is not i only have one suggestion... CLOSE THE CLUB, DUMP THE BRAND AND GO OUT ON A REASONABLE LOW !!

Storm on the other hand... new venue... would be amazing!

Discuss..

i think things have changed quite a lot since then, socs have to find there own way of getting money, a soc of 200 people would be lucky to get £100 off the uni.

That's a f*cking disgrace!!!! If my taxes were being spent on things like that rather than £1.2million houses for refugees in London I wouldn't mind, as it's all about culture. And that is a fact because the Emporium has one of those brown signs like museums and that. I shall write to my man at the ministry forthwith.

You know that I think...

I think that people should stop moaning, all alot of people ever do is moan about the hard work that all the promoters put into nights for us lot.
At the end of the day you don't always need a big name DJ to have a good night in a club.
Those DJs cost a massive amount to put on so the place has to be making money to actually have them in the first place.

Personally I would be happy to have more DJs on in one night that cost less to get, that way you get more different styles and genres of music to listen to.

Passion will be going for years still, this bloke obviously ain't got a clue.

So come one people, instead of moaning, support all of the club nights in the country and keep them going for years and years to come!!!

This is essentially saying that PaSSion is JFK and JFK is PaSSion, which shouldn't be the case, the night should be able to stand on it's own right and not rely on one person to make it what it is. Going by this link, if Jason's on form then PaSSion is good, and if he's not on form then it's shit, which to a degree seems to be the case

Fair point, but Passion wasn't Passion when he left. It was a pale imitation. JFK is Passion. It was almost like Passion moved to Hinckley for a bit! But to me Passion's bond with the residents seems unique. Agreed a brand shouldnt rely on an individual but it does....

Passion Rules your point is bang on. I've been goin Passion since 2001(Armin was monthly resident around this time) and the one thing synonimous with the best times is.... JFK

What presence / relevance do the other trance brands have nowadays who didnt have such a charismatic figurehead?

And in my opinion, JFK's birthdays are always one of the best nights of the year. What other clubs can boast that. None because there is no identfiable figurehead / talisman

I disagree, people are not moaning, they just care. Everyone is thinking it, so why not discuss it??

It might even be constructive :)

2008 has been a great year for Passion, not only has it brought the biggest DJ's in the scene to a tiny town in the midlands but it has also been a platform for up and coming talent. Anyone who has been in the red room this year will know that there are alot of telented new DJ's which have been associated with Passion this year.

Comments such as "sub standard line ups" are rediculous, just about every big name has had a set at Passion this year, there has been 3 of Passions legendary classics nights, and it has dedicated the last night of the year to the the new talent all of which have had the Red Room rocking this year and deserve the support of the Passion faithfull. The 6th December is going to be one hell of a party so don't miss out (alot better than sulking infront of the TV watching X-Factor because there isn't a big name DJ on ;-)

I'm in no way saying that people shouldn't discuss it, but when I read these threads alot of people do moan.
It's quite sad to see that alot of people wont even walk out the door without there being a big name DJ on.

People like me and you mate will prob end up going passion or any other night even if there isnt a big name on as we are about the music.
I do agree that it can be constructive aswell though :)

Meanwhile Genix can do a nice warmup just fine, but it's when he plays at the end and is free to really open the taps that he proves just how good he really is

Indeed, played an absolute blinder when he closed off the rails once.
and having only been to passion once i cant really comment much on it, but it seemed a nice club, atmosphere was maybe lacking but having said that, i was the only one who noticed that so it seemed it was more me than anything.

I for one am not to bothered about big names i want to hear dj's that are out to prove something because thats when you get the best sets imo! for instance Rav Takhar from Digital Society always amazing true star of the future there is so much talent out there it just needs to start coming through so this nu talent night will be amazing.

It won't survive with line up's like the Nu-Passion one as their Xmas Party. Why don't they book people that are actually up & coming in the music scene, like who are actually contributing something into how it shapes? I'm sure the dj's on the line up are all competent dj's in their own right, but to label the brand as something at the 'forefront' of talent is somewhat of a joke.

Can you see them all flourishing alongside big names & signed to big dj's labels in the future? Genix is an obvious exception there, however I cannot see the rest doing much damage (no offense to those concerned)

A line up with something like this would of resembled 'Nu-Talent' in the actual scene & not Coalville....

Tom Colontonio
Mat Zo
Andy Duguid
M6
Orjan Neilsen

New names, all making music that people enjoy, getting support from the big name DJs. That is new talent.

Of course the usual followers will complain that people should stop moaning as these people are doing 'such hard work'. The question begs to me is are they actually doing hard work? Getting a load of local djs, getting them to play for free & they take the door tax of £7 (and promoting that the 3 early bird tickets have all sold out - surprise, surprise).

ps. any night which uses the term 'credit crunch' in their promotion needs to come up with better slogans for their PR guff.

Cheers mate.

To me the JFK issue is as straightforward and indisputable as the fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

The point you make about the JFK birthday bash is also exactly right - despite sometimes unfathomable individual opinions, upwards of 2,000 people can't be wrong year in year out - people go to that night precisely because Jason is going to be playing all night and they know the atmosphere will rock.

The evidence of how important Jason is to Passion and how much the crowd love him, regulars and newcomers alike, is all around, but then as the saying goes, 'there's none so blind as those that won't see'.

Come on all of those who disbelieve and criticise, wake up!

I'll agree with you that they are up and coming new talent but dont you think that the fact they are foriegn shows that they must of played at nights like these to the get heard of outside their own countries.

Two out of the 5 are from the UK. I don't think its particularly difficult to find talent in the UK, i was merely using them as an example. Unfortunately the DJ's they've chosen for the night, i don't think will be people who will get booked at other nights with a credible (i use that term loosely after this line up announcement) name like Passion.

I quote London-Raver:

What do up and coming DJ's like the NU:Passion DJ's playing on the 6th December contribute to the scene, errm lets see;-

Who do you think buys the majority of trance music from download sites/record shops? Thats right all the bedroom/up and coming DJ's who if they are lucky get to play 1 trance set a month but still spend a fortune keeping their tunes up to date, giving producers an extra income, which for the lucky few allows them to do it as their job (alongside DJing) allowing them to concentrate on making interesting new music to fuel the scene. If nobody brought the music it wouldn't get produced, and therefore the scene would probably die, so its not just the people who make the music who contribute to the scene it the people who buy it as well!!!!

There's never been a more appropriate moment to use the term, 'scraping the barrel', in reply to the above. Who buys the majority of it? People who enjoy the music, to put it down to purely DJ's who buy it is a bit naive & arrogant. Going by what you're saying they may as well have an open decks night.

No offense but i don't see you shaping a scene, i don't see you doing anything inventive which is going to push boundaries. That's not me being snidey or being personal, its purely on what im seeing from your website. To suggest that these kind of line up's at a club that has a reputable brand (reputable as a loose term btw) are justified, due to 'djs' dipping into their pockets to buy music, is half baked.

The ones without the Passion blinkers & those with an ounce of common sense, would of clearly seen that I was referring to contribution in a creative & artistic sense. Not the monetary sense.
