Sean Tyas Interview Ahead Of Passion 4th October 2008
Ahead of Sean Tyas’s eagerly awaited return to the famous Passion turntables Passion resident Genix decided to ask him a few questions…..
First of all it’s a great pleasure to welcome you back to Passion!....
Your DJ career just gets better and better! Did you ever expect it to take you across the globe?
Not at all! In fact I had no idea, 3 years ago, that I’d even BE DJing. All I really wanted was to be a studio hermit and make music all day. But I’m thrilled about how it actually did turn out. It’s truly surreal.
Your last appearance at Passion last year left our clubbers wanting more TYAS!!! What do you have in store when you appear on the 4th oct?
About a year back, I was asked what direction I’d be going, and I answered a bit more techy. Oddly, my preference has really been to go more melodic over these last 12 months, but just as banging. Also what I have noticed in the last few months was a slew of really great trance demos I have received. So it is really nice to have these as exclusives to be playing out. And that is what I will be bringing to the table on the 4th, along with my new single, Melbourne.
Can you tell us a few things that the clubbers may not know about you? Be brave! Haha!
In line with me “accidentally” getting into music, all my childhood growing up I wanted to work for Disney or and Anime production house as an animator. In fact it’s what I went to college for!
In your opinion… what makes a great trance track?
Ah, you know a trance track is something special, when the end of the full melody is ending, that you simply CANNOT wait for it to start again, possibly with a new element accompanying for extra fire. If it gets you to really anticipate that repeat so much, then the producer has truly done his/her job well.
We all know the Tyas sound of you productions… but for those who may not have heard you DJ what can people they expect coming from the speakers when you are play on oct 4th?
Bring sneakers (or “trainers” I think ya call em?), not dress shoes. Expect to dance, it’s gonna be energetic, driving, melodic trance music.
Your sets always seem to please the trance faithfull…. Do you have any new productions or any big tunes that are going off in your sets right now?
Well the biggest tunes for when I play right now, are probably the new one I have done with Patterson, called “Somethin’s Up”, I have made a tiny little edit version that we only play live, and is working really well, and of course, my remix of Armin van Buuren – Going Wrong, which never saw release. The fact that it was not released really works in my favor, in that it’s not very often people hear it.
Your career rise was pretty spectacular… hitting the top in a short time! Do you have any big influences that have made you so successful?
The main influence is really just standing on a dancefloor and hearing a track for the first time, that reallllllly moves you. That makes you want to get right back to the studio and get back to work! So I suppose the main motivation would be just that, hearing new stuff!
Do you have any other hobbies aswell as your DJing? Or does that take up most of your time?
DJing and production certainly take up most of each day. Just got a dog which has proven to be quite time consuming as well. But if I do have a moment to myself while home, it’s playing XBOX360 which I really haven’t touched for the last month, I miss GTA4.
Finally…. Thankyou for your time…. We look forward to welcoming you back to Passion on October 4th with open arms…… Genix
